Description

1979 GMC Royal Sierra LWB – For 1979, the front fascia underwent a minor facelift. While sharing the same stamping as before, the vertical bars were painted dark gray; chrome trim incorporated the turn signal lenses, giving chrome to nearly the entire front fascia. The exposed fuel caps were also replaced with fuel-tank doors in 1979. The “Royal Sierra”  was, in essence, a trim package that one could custom-order (back in the day when you checked the boxes on a paper form, to order any number of option combinations that you wanted – no pre-selected, ‘get-what-we-give-you’ like so many newer cars today) at a discounted price, come the end of the sales year. Certain unique features were standard on the Royal Sierra, like a striped seat, but you could get things like air conditioning, power accessories, and full gage package, all at a discounted price. If our sources are correct, only about 500 units were made like this between 1975 and 1981, as a purely promotional gimmick. That said, there can’t be very many of them left.

This Royal Sierra really isn’t your average classic GM truck. The interior looks great, the engine bay shows well, the bed is solid, and the rear bumper appears never to have made contact with a solid object. The previous owner in Mississippi stated that the truck was purchased new in Mississippi, stored away and neglected for 40 years, then brought out and put back on the road. It had 41,000 miles at that time and we have have receipts showing apprx $2k was spent getting her freshly tuned in Oct 2020. In very recent history, we decided to complete the restoration after purchasing this GMC in early 2022. It now shows just over 42k miles and features a fresh Charcoal repaint, new exterior trim, and new door panels. Between the late 202o mechanical repairs and the recent cosmetic restoration, this rare GMC now has the “Royal” treatment it deserves. Features and options on this truck include; V8, Auto, RWD, A/C, Carmine Striped Bench, Chrome Bumpers, Chrome Grill, Chrome Mirrors, Double SPID, Rubber Floormats, Original Owners Manual & Build Sheet, Power Steering & Brakes, Factory AM/FM Radio, Tilt Steering, Soft-Ray Tinted Glass, Tire Tools, 15″ Factory Wheels, and Thick 235/75/R15 Tires! While all classic Chevy trucks are fun to own, it’s unique to find a rare piece of GM history that also looks stunning, drives great, and has low miles. This is truly one you don’t want to let slip away!
