Description

1955 Chevy 210 Handyman Station Wagon – The ” ‘55 Chevy ” was the automobile built by Chevrolet that has always been considered as being a huge turning point for the manufacturer and a major success. It was available in three models: the 150, 210, and Bel Air. Additionally, Chevrolet drastically changed its body design. The 1955 Chevy had smooth straight panels on the sides and hood. This was a major departure from previous years for Chevrolet. Although Ford introduced what would be the first “shoe box” body design in 1949, GM and Chrysler were slow to catch on, only slowly replacing some of their bubble-like hood and side panels with flatter ones each year, without achieving a full shoebox look by 1954. But in 1955, Chevy designed the entire car with the full shoebox look. Along with the flatter straighter panels, the ’55 also had modern cues like wrap-around glass on the windshield, and triangular tail lights that jutted outward. This new look, combined with new power and engineering, made the ’55 an instant hit with the buying public and a critical success. The 1955 Chevrolet also offered many other firsts for Chevrolet, including changing from a 6-volt to a 12-volt electrical system. The ’55 offered new options like air conditioning, power windows, power seats, power steering and power brakes. Other options included automatic light dimmers, door handle protectors, bumper protectors and “wonder-bar” radios. So many new options were available that some referred to the car as “Chevy’s little Cadillac.” Never before had so many options been offered for a car in the low-price field.

This ’55 210 Handyman is hands down the coolest wagon we have seen in years. Not only is this Chevy an iconic American classic but it was finished in a beautiful red and blue color scheme that almost incites a “USA, USA,…” chant when you see her. The previous owner was actually thinking more along the lines of a Houston Texans (NFL) theme but with the exception of one removable speaker cover, you may never have known. This wagon is the result of a somewhat recent frame-off build and it still shows as freshly completed. In fact, this wagon has seen just under 700 miles of asphalt since completion. As you know, dark colors on long vehicles are hard to get right and the panels on this Handyman are laser straight. The custom leather interior looks amazing and the bed features a painted wood surface. A carpet mat overlay to protect the wood is in the works. Under the hood is a healthy 302 V8 sourced from a Camaro Z28 paired with an Automatic transmission and a Hurst Pro-Matic 2 shifter. A complete list of features and options includes; 302 V8, Headers, Chrome Air Cleaner, Chrome Brake Booster, Aluminum Radiator, MSD Ignition, Automatic Transmission, Power Steering, 4 Wheel Disc Brakes, Tubular A-Arms, Vintage A/C, Center Console Storage, Chrome Grill, Rubber Floormats, Chrome Banjo Wheel, Autometer Gauges, Pioneer AM/FM/CD (w/remote), Custom Stereo, Captains Chairs, Chrome Bumpers & Mirrors, Dual Exhaust, Tilt Steering, Tinted Glass, 18″ Chrome Torque Thrust Wheels, and Thick 225/40R18 Tires! This isn’t a wagon you won’t come across everyday and definitely not one that you can find and build for only $40k.
